How a surf & yoga camp can change your relationship with stress

Why mindful travel is becoming the new burnout antidote

The stress we carry

Modern life in Europe moves fast. Between work deadlines, commuting, constant digital connection, and stress often becomes the background music of daily life, and that’s what happened to us as well.

We used to live a stressed life, always rushing, never listening to ourselves and our body, that’s why we created Kavo Maison surf & yoga camp.

We decided “that’s enough”

We left everything back in Europe and we started travelling around the world, arriving in Bali. This island captured our heart and we decided this is the right place to restart, to reconnect and help other people do it as well.

Surf and yoga retreats Bali are becoming increasingly popular among travelers looking not just for sun and waves, but for a way to reset physically, mentally, and emotionally.
These retreats are not luxury vacations. They’re a new form of self-care.

1. Surf: The mindfulness of the ocean

The ocean doesn’t care about your notifications.
Surfing forces you into the present moment. You can’t control the ocean, you can only adapt.

Whether you are taking your first surf lesson Canggu, or you are enjoying your first green wave, you will never forget that first time you stand up on your surfboard, that first time you look at the sunset from the ocean. These are moments of pure happiness and calm that will heal your mind and your soul.

You don’t have to be an expert to surf, trust us! In fact, many surf camps Bali are designed for total beginners.

2. Yoga: Reconnecting body and breath

Stress often lives in the body. Shoulders tense. Jaws clenched. Breath shallow. You can relate right?

Most surf retreats in Bali offer daily yoga sessions, from energizing morning flows to calming evening stretches. Practicing daily yoga regulates your nervous system, reduces cortisol levels, and helps you reconnect with your body and your soul. We can tell that from our own experience!

Unlike traditional yoga studios, retreats allow you to practice outside, surrounded by nature. Rice fields. Ocean breeze. Open sky.

Yoga isn’t about achieving perfect poses, it’s about unwinding from within.

3. Why retreats work (even when therapy doesn’t)

Many people in Europe today are already working on their mental health, with therapy, journaling, or mindfulness apps. But still feel… stuck.

What surf and yoga retreats offer is a full-body reset: you eat better, move more, sleep deeper, breathe slower.
You break your routine, and take a step out of your comfort zone.

And you’re not alone. You’re surrounded by like-minded travelers, all choosing intention over distraction.

4. How to choose the right surf and yoga retreat

There are hundreds of surf camps Bali, so how do you choose?

These are our suggestions, look for:

  • Group size: smaller = deeper connections
  • Vibe: is it party-heavy, or soul-centered? What are you looking for?
  • Location: areas like Munggu, Kedungu or Cemagi are quieter than Canggu but still close to top surf beaches
  • Schedule: a balance between surf, yoga and free time is key

We are all different, and that’s why you should focus on what is best for you!

Is a surf & yoga retreat right for me?

You may ask yourself this question as this is a completely new way of travel and it can be a big step out of your comfort zone we know that, so here some Q&A that may help you:

“I’m not flexible / fit enough for yoga.”
You don’t need to be. Most retreats offer beginner-friendly sessions focused on breath, alignment and relaxation, not performance.

“I’ve never surfed before. Will I be the only beginner?”
Not at all. In fact, most people attending surf retreats in Bali are complete beginners. Retreats are designed to teach you the basics at your pace, with soft boards and supportive instructors.

“I’m traveling solo, is that ok?”
Sure! These kinds of retreats attract a lot of solo travelers looking for deeper connection both with themselves and with others. You are in the right place!

“I’m over 30, I feel I’m a bit too old for it?”
Absolutely not. Many people who join surf and yoga retreats Bali are in their 30s, 40s, even 50s. In fact, coming with more life experience often makes the journey deeper, more meaningful… and more needed!

5. A new way of travelling

This way of travel isn’t a trend, it’s a movement.

Especially for Europeans balancing intense city lives, these experiences offer more than just vacation. They offer renewal.

And Bali is the perfect place to welcome it.

How to bring some of this retreat feeling at home?
Small habits that help you stay balanced before or after your retreat

We get it, not everyone can depart now for a surf and yoga retreat, so here we have some best practices you can do at home to get that retreat feeling before or after your trip!

  1. Start your mornings with 5 minutes of intentional breath or silence
  2. Use music or ocean sounds to bring your nervous system back into calm
  3. Journal before going to bed and reflect about your day

Prioritize joy, even if it’s just a walk, a stretch, or time in nature
