Morning rituals inspired by Bali to reduce stress

September 12, 2025
Bali is undoubtedly one of the most popular Asian destinations for Europeans, Australians and Asians themselves. This is certainly due to its breathtaking views, beautiful beaches and unique Balinese culture. But there is another reason why travellers from all over the world are increasingly drawn to Bali: spirituality. Yes, Bali can be a teacher for all those who want to embark on a journey into the world of spirituality and rediscover their inner well-being.  Many people feel an increasing need to heal from stress and anxiety, and as we know, it can often be very difficult to do so in our daily routine. That’s why a trip to Bali can be a winning choice for carving out a few days away from everything and everyone and dedicating time to yourself. Bali offers a wide range of retreats and specialised treatment centres, from simple yoga retreats to more extreme meditation and silent retreats, as well as clinics that follow treatment plans based on various alternative medicine techniques, such as Ayurveda or Chinese medicine. You can even find a great surf and yoga retreat Bali to combine two powerful wellness practices. In short, there is something for everyone.  In addition to all this, there is another way to benefit from the magical and powerful energy that you can feel in Bali, and these are more self-made techniques, but they can be effective to take home with you once your stay in Bali is over. Here is a list of our favourites, which, with a little willpower, you can easily incorporate into your daily routine in Bali. They are designed to be done early in the morning, so that their positive influence on your body and mind lasts throughout the day and does not interfere with your sightseeing.
  1. Sunrise walks or run at the beach

Sunrise walks or run at the beach Easy to say, harder to put into practice, but you certainly won’t be disappointed. Taking advantage of the early sunrise in Bali, the light already present at 6 a.m. and the pleasant climate that is never cold from dawn onwards will bring you physical and mental benefits throughout the day. Wherever you are, preferably near a beach, put on your sports gear and go outside. Walk, run, listen to some music if you like, but please use only one earpiece so that you can still connect with the sounds of nature. A morning walk or run on the beach will not only help your mind but also your body, helping you wake up on the right foot to face the whole day. And believe me, if the first few days it may seem impossible to wake up at 6 a.m. to go to the beach to walk or run, from the third day onwards it will seem perfectly normal and you won’t be able to do without it.
  1. Meditation with incense

It’s no longer a secret, it’s been said and written that meditation can really improve the lives and mental health of all of us. So why not take advantage of your stay in Bali to introduce this ancient practice into your life? There are different ways to meditate: you can do it sitting, lying down, with or without music, choosing a specific theme or letting your mind wander. Well, it will take a few attempts to find the best way for you, but once you find it, meditation will become a real necessity for your mind. An excellent tip I was given to help me get started with this practice is to create a suitable, sacred environment (candles, incense) and initially seek help from guided meditations, which are easy to find online. But since we are in Bali, there is one thing you could focus on more: incense. Meditation with incenses From the moment you set foot in Bali, you will realise that incense is everywhere, so it could become part of your routine too. You may wonder why, but here are the benefits of incense: it helps you stay focused on something by anchoring your sense of smell, it relaxes you thanks to the fragrance it releases into the air (especially lavender and sandalwood), it creates a sacred moment by marking the beginning of your meditation practice and separating it from the rest of the day, and finally, it gives you a small daily habit to start your day off right. So there you have it, the perfect combination: meditation with Balinese incense.
  1. Surf as moving meditation

Many of you may think that surfing is not relaxing at all and cannot help reduce stress in any way, but yes, it really can. I have spoken to many surfers and they all clearly express how liberating surfing is for the mind. And that’s exactly how it is. Surfing encourages patience, living in the here and now, listening to and observing nature. All this, once you have finished surfing, will leave you with a feeling of deep inner peace, almost like meditation.  Sunrise surf Even if you have never surfed before, in Bali it will be easy to find an instructor and a place to hire a board and embark on this new adventure. Do not let the fear of trying something new hold you back, I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised. 1. Water ceremonies & nature connection

Leafing through the most viral reels on Instagram lately, you will surely have come across someone showing Balinese purifications with waterfalls. These purifications are called melukat. It is certainly not easy or advisable to do one every morning, but you could start your trip to Bali by participating in a melukat, and to reap all the benefits, continue the following mornings with baths in a tub or pool, depending on what you have available. It could become your new ritual to start the day. In Bali, it is very easy to find small shops selling different types of flowers, which are used here for offerings to the gods. Buying some colourful ones to decorate your immersion could be an excellent idea.  Purifying bath Water helps cleanse our soul, washing away everything that weighs us down. So let’s allow this element to help us relieve all kinds of thoughts and start the day feeling light.
  1. Yoga session

Yes, it may seem obvious, but I assure you that you won’t find yoga like Bali anywhere else. In Bali, anywhere on the island, you can find every type of yoga at any time of day. For a complete wellness experience, consider joining a surf and yoga retreat Bali. From the most spiritual and meditative practices to the most intense and physical ones, there really is something for everyone. And of course, starting the day with a yoga practice can be a good way to get moving, connect and feel part of a real movement. And the great thing is that all you need is a mat and a little willpower to take this wonderful habit home with you. Morning yoga
  1. Let Bali helps you

In conclusion, let Bali help you rediscover yourself, your wellbeing and good habits.
